Abstract

A menu unit of measurement is a unit used to measure the quantity of a menu item (dishes, goods, or services).

A unit of measurement is assigned to a menu item or a draft menu item in the Menu or Draft menu directories, respectively.

The unit of measurement of a particular menu item is made available on the POS terminal after the menu item is added to an order.

The Menu units of measurement directory is used to create and manage units of measurement. These units allow you to keep a record of the availability of menu items.

Every unit of measurement must be assigned to a type, such as: Volume, Quantity or Time. The list of available types of units of measurement is defined by the user. Types assigned to units of measurement can be used to group, filter or sort menu units of measurement.

In some cases it can be useful to measure quantities of the same menu item in different units of measurement. For example, ice cream can be measured in tablespoons or grams when it is served as an additive to desserts, but it is better to measure it in portions when served as an individual dish. In order to do this, one or more additional units of measurement can be added to the menu item units of measurement specification. You can specify any required supplementary units of measurement here. Once entered in the specification, they do not need to be entered into the Menu units of measurement directory.

A recalculation ratio should accompany each supplementary unit of measurement. This ratio will specify the relationship between the volume of an item expressed in the primary unit of measurement and its volume expressed in the supplementary unit of measurement. You should also specify maximum and minimum values to indicate when supplementary units of measurement should be used instead of primary ones.

When a menu item is added to an order and its volume falls between the minimum and maximum values specified for a supplementary unit, its volume will be recalculated and displayed on the terminal in the supplementary unit of measurement.

For example, desserts may have Portions as their primary unit of measurement, each of which is equal to 200 grams. For this unit of measurement the range is set from 100 to 1000, within which the supplementary unit of measurement - Gram - is also applicable. The recalculation ratio, or ratio of one portion to the number of grams in it, equals 0.005. If the value entered is within the range of 1 to 99, it will not be recalculated and will be displayed in portions in both the editor window and the order. But if the value is between 100 and 1000, it will be converted into grams and will appear in the editor window in grams, while in the order - in portions.

Supplementary units of measurement are made available only on the POS terminal screen. In the specifications of orders, bills and receipts, a menu item's quantity is always expressed in its primary units.
