Point types

Revision History

Points are nominal units that are awarded to customers according to the rules established by a given venue. Usually, the number of points accrued depends on a client's order totals. However, the flexibility of Tillypad XL allows you to configure any settings for accruing and spending points. In the sales rules, you can track a client's points and calculate the value of his/her discount accordingly.

Limitations can be set on the time periods during which customers can accrue and spend points. This would allow, for example, a policy where points that have been accrued during the current month can be activated only on or after the 5th day of the following month. The accrued points have to be spent within 12 months; otherwise they will be lost.

By creating different point types, you can implement several loyalty programs in one venue.

Point types are managed in the Point types directory.

Points are awarded to customers’ accounts when they pay for their orders. The points awarding operation is carried out together with the payment procedure. Points are usually added to clients’ accounts when they present their IDs (client cards etc.).

In Tillypad XL, you can use both cumulative and non-cumulative points. Cumulative points are added to regular customer accounts, and more are accumulated with every visit. Accrued cumulative points can be used to pay for orders during subsequent visits. Non-cumulative points can only be acquired and used during a single visit. After this visit, they are annulled.

A loyalty program based on cumulative points works well in restaurant chains, where points earned in one restaurant can be spent in any other restaurant of the chain. This type of program can be extended by including partner businesses. For example, a group of unrelated companies (restaurant chain, tour agency, beauty salon, etc.) agrees to award points to their customers when they make purchases. Points earned by the customer will then be honoured by any other organisation participating in this loyalty system.
