Production is the preparation of dishes and compound stock items from stock items by means of recipes.

The ingredients in the production process can be stock items held in a store or other stock items that are also obtained from production (semi-finished products).

The result of production is a new stock item that is added to the stock as a finished product. The ingredients that were used in production are automatically deducted from the stock.

The production of new dishes is accompanied by production records, which make it possible to register compound stock items and deduct used stock items.

Production records are used to control the internal stock movement when manufacturing dishes or semi-finished products. The production operation results determine the price of the produced stock items (dishes, semi-finished products).

The stock-out operations in production records can be taken into account when average standard daily consumption rates for stock items are calculated on the store. In order that production records are taken into account during calculation, they must be added to the stock-out document types specification on the Document types for calculating standard daily consumption rates panel.

When adding semi-finished products to the specification of a production record, a parent element is only specified for items that are included in the recipe of another compound stock item. No parent is specified for stock items with recipes.

Stock items without recipes (simple stock items) can be added to the specification of a production record either as standalone items or as ingredients of compound stock items.

If a simple stock item is added to the specification as a standalone item, at least one child element must be specified for it.

If a simple stock item is added to the specification as an ingredient, its parent element must be specified. Its parent element can be a standalone item or a compound item that is included as an ingredient in the recipe of another compound item.

Production documents may have different statuses at different stages of processing:

  • Not ready – the document is open for changes.

  • Ready – the document is temporarily unavailable for changes and cannot be run on the store.

  • Registered – the document is unavailable for changes but eligible to be processed by the storekeeping system.

When a production record is created, it has the status Not ready. When the Ready or Registered status has been applied, the document becomes read-only and can no longer be edited or deleted. The document can be run on the store once the Registered status has been applied.

The Deleted status is automatically applied to a production record when it is deleted.

Stock items in a production record also have statuses. These statuses are assigned automatically when the records are processed by the storekeeping system.

A document specification item can have one of the following statuses:

  • OK – processing was successfully completed.

  • Not enough on hand in store – processing cannot be completed because the on-hand level of the stock item is less than the amount specified for deduction in the production record.

This status is assigned when the following circumstances are met:

    • the store to which the production record applies has the on-hand level monitoring system;

    • the on-hand volume of the stock item goes negative when the production record is processed.

  • Specification item has no recipe – an element included as a top-level (standalone) element has no recipe and no child elements.

  • Cost price loop – the cost price of the stock item cannot be calculated because the stock consumption record links to the stock receipt record, and at the same time, the stock receipt record links to the stock consumption record.

Production records for all stores in the system are held in the Production records document list.
