Working in Kitchen Display System mode

A KDS (Kitchen Display System) is an interactive display system that allows you to automate communication and cooperation among the employees who cook, assemble and serve orders. It can also be used to notify customers that their orders are ready.

The system is comprised of POS terminals (one terminal per workstation) and a queue management screen. On the POS terminal, employees can view all the order tickets that need their attention. After completing each operation, employees touch the order ticket on the POS terminal screen. This informs other employees about completed operations and notifies customers about the readiness statuses of their orders.

Immediately after a customer's order is taken, an order ticket displaying its items appears on the screens of the cook, assembly operator and counter staff. The cook confirms prep start by pressing the order ticket. The assembler marks the start of the assembly process and begins putting together the order after its items have been prepared in the kitchen. Counter staff wait for the order to be assembled; they monitor the order readiness status on their POS terminals. After the order has been assembled, counter staff press the order ticket. The order number appears on the queue management screen in the list of ready orders. After an employee finishes with an order, he/she presses its ticket on the screen a second time, causing it to disappear.

The customer receives an order number and can use the queue management screen to track the status of his/her order. After the order appears in the ready list, the customer can come up to the counter to collect it.

Assembly and serving can be carried out at a consolidated assembly and serving workstation.

The Kitchen Display System is flexible and can be configured for any type of venue, including fast food locations, cafes, or restaurants. You can customise the relationships between KDS workstations in order to adapt the system to your venue’s customer service approach. To do so, change the SQL query in the KDS query types directory. For example, you can configure order tickets to appear at both the kitchen and assembly workstations as soon as the order has been paid for. Alternatively, you can set up the order ticket to appear at the assembly workstation only after the order has been prepared in the kitchen. You can completely change the appearance of order tickets by editing their print layouts. The appearance of the queue management screen can also be modified.

To switch the POS terminal to Kitchen Display System mode when you have access to multiple modes, you need to log in and select this mode. To change the user or shut down the POS terminal, press the Exit button and select an appropriate action.

We will now describe how the Kitchen Display System, using the system query types, operates at the following workstations:

If order tickets do not fit into one screen, press in the right side of the screen to navigate to the next screen. You can press this button as many times as you need to reach the desired order. To return to the previous screen, press .
