Tillypad XL can be used for automating rental shops. All equipment items in the rental shop must be marked with unique IDs. At first, all items are handed out for an unlimited duration of time. After the equipment is returned to the rental shop, Tillypad XL calculates the rental fee for each item depending on the length of time the customer had the item in their possession. Guest tabs are created on the POS terminal in Restaurant waiter mode, while the equipment is rented out and received back on the POS terminal in Equipment rental mode.

Customer service starts at the registration point with a POS terminal in Restaurant waiter mode. The rental shop employee opens a guest tab, which immediately receives a unique ID. The customer informs which items he/she would like to rent, and the employee takes a deposit/piece of ID and puts it in a storage cell. The number of the cell is specified in the guest tab. The customer receives a guest tab printout with an ID.

Next, the customer goes to the pickup point and scans the printout to open the right guest tab. The employee at the pickup point finds the requested items in the storage room and scans the ID attached to each piece. As a result, the selected items are added to the customer's guest tab.

The customer receives the items and can try them on if necessary. During the time allotted for fitting, he/she can exchange any item without paying the rental fee. After that time is over, the customer starts paying according to the effective rate.

At the end of the rental period, the customer returns the items to the drop-off point. The employee scans the IDs of the returned items. This is when the rental time stops.

Having returned all of the rented items, the customer goes to the registration point where he/she left the deposit/piece of ID. The customer presents the guest tab printout using which the employee opens the associated guest tab. The employee carries out final payment and returns the deposit/piece of ID.

Here are the operations that a customer can carry out in Equipment rental mode:

Interface of Equipment rental

When an employee enters Equipment rental mode, he/she sees an empty screen with only one active button for exiting the mode.

The customer's guest tab opens after the employee scans the guest tab's printout or the rented item's ID.

The left side of the screen displays the name of the cell where the deposit is stored, as well as the customer details and information about the deposit. By using the Edit comment operation, you can enter any information about the customer. The deposit is represented as a list of menu items.

The right side of the screen contains information about the equipment handed out to the customer, including the time when each item was handed out and, if the customer has already returned the items, the amount of time the customer had them.
