Cumulative discount systems are a useful tool for promoting customer loyalty. In these programmes, the discounted amount depends on prior orders made by the customer on past visits. Tillypad XL uses points to implement such programmes. Points allow you to keep track of orders that have been made by customers previously and to offer discounts and bonuses based on the number earned.

Discounts with points are configured in Tillypad XL Manager, but pre-set discounts can only be granted by the addition of menu items to an order in Tillypad XL POS.

Automatic accrual and deduction of points takes place via tasks, which can be scheduled or run manually when needed. The SQL query used in the task determines the rules by which points are earned and deducted. Points can be assigned or deducted manually from the Regular customer points operations list.

The promotion type that will be used to give the customer the discount depends on the number of points he/she has. The number of points each regular customer has can be viewed in the Regular customer point balances operational report.

Configuration a points-based discount

You need to configure a discount that allows the customer to receive the Brownie menu item for free with 500-2,000 points or a 12% discount on items from the Restaurant menu group with 2,000 points or more. The discount must be offered in the Groggy Goat division during the entire business day. Customers from the Regular customer group acquire points for purchases of any menu items from the Groggy Goat division. Points become active one month after they have been earned.

In this example, a system promotion formula is used to calculate discount amounts. The task for points accrual is created based on the system Transfer points to regular customers task type.
