Summary functions

Summary functions

By using summary functions, you can receive additional information based on data grid data. Calculated data allow you to receive current information from the data grid without using reports or screen form print formats. For each data grid column you can specify one or more summary functions.

Functions that are used to obtain intermediate and final results are joined into the Summary functions menu.

The Summary functions menu includes the following commands:

  • Total – calculates the total of the column values.

This function is unavailable for columns with string values, dates, and times.

  • Minimum – shows the lowest value in the column.

This function is unavailable for columns with string values.

  • Maximum – shows the highest value in the column.

This function is unavailable for columns with string values.

  • Quantity – determines the number of non-empty values in the column.

  • Average – determines the average value in the column.

This function is unavailable for columns with string values.

  • Number of entries – shows the number of entries in the data grid.

The value produced by this function is displayed separately from values of other summary functions. It is calculated for the entire data grid.

To display summary function calculation results in the data grid, place your cursor in the data grid column or in the empty space below the data grid and select a summary function from the context menu. As a result, the summary functions panel will display the icon illustrating the function and the calculated result. If two or more functions have been selected for the same column, they will be placed one below the other.

The summary functions panel appears if one or more summary functions have been set up for at least one column of the data grid.

The summary function values selected for the column are highlighted in the menu. To clear the calculation results, select the function in the context menu one more time.

If the data grid is grouped by column(s), the summary functions can be calculated not only for the entire data grid but also for each of the groups. In this case, the Summary functions menu contains additional menus: Group header and Group functions panel. The commands in these menus are identical to those in the Summary functions menu.

Summary results can be obtained for all data grid entries. If data are grouped by some criteria, intermediate results can be calculated for each of these groups.

The Number of entries function icon and the calculated number of entries in the group appear immediately after the name of the group. The values of other summary functions selected in the Group header menu appear in brackets in the header of the group. The line appears as follows: the name of the column, summary function icons, and their results. The names of columns are separated with commas.

The values for summary functions selected in the Group functions panel menu are displayed in the group summary functions panel. This panel appears after the last item of the group. The number of entries in the group is displayed on a separate row in the panel below the values of other summary functions.
